Macau — the world's largest single casino market — recorded gross gaming revenue of MOP$226.8 billion (about US$28.3 billion) in 2024, up 23.9% year-on-year in a second year of rebound after the 2023 border reopening. That is roughly 77.5% of its 2019 peak, with recovery led by mass-market rather than the largely dismantled junket (VIP) segment.
Fiscal weight
Gaming is central to Macau's public finances: the government collected about US$11 billion in gaming tax in 2024, up 35% year-on-year. Gaming tax typically supplies the large majority of the territory's fiscal revenue, which is why Macau's diversification policy is closely watched.
Macau reports monthly GGR through the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), making it one of the most closely tracked gambling markets in the world.
