According to the 2024 Gambling Survey for Great Britain (GSGB), 2.7% of adults scored 8+ on the Problem Gambling Severity Index — roughly 1.4 million people — with a further 3.1% at moderate risk and 8.8% at low risk. Men (6%) are affected more than women (2.8%), and young adults aged 18–24 are the highest-risk group at around 10%. Prevalence is markedly higher in more deprived areas.

The global picture

Worldwide, more than a quarter of the population gambled in 2023 (participation reaches ~60% in the US and ~54% in the UK). Among participants, at-risk gamblers are estimated at around 8% and problem gamblers at about 2%.
